Community Guidelines
Last updated: [[EFFECTIVE DATE]]
Booniverse is a place for people to feel less alone. These rules exist to keep it that way. They apply everywhere in the app — BooFriend chats, forums, journals you make visible, notes, anonymous posts, your profile and your bio.
Breaking them can get your content removed, your account suspended, or your account permanently banned.
Be kind
- Treat everyone the way you'd want to be treated on your worst day.
- Don't bully, mock, pile on, or follow someone around the app to get at them.
- Disagreeing is fine. Being cruel isn't.
Never — instant permanent ban
These get you removed immediately, and where the law requires it, reported to the authorities:
- Any sexual content involving a minor, in any form, including "jokes", drawings, or asking for it.
- Grooming — building trust with a younger user to exploit them, asking for photos, asking to move to a private app, asking to meet.
- Credible threats of violence against a person.
- Encouraging or instructing someone to kill themselves.
Don't post
- Sexual or pornographic content of any kind.
- Graphic violence or gore.
- Hate speech or slurs targeting race, ethnicity, religion, disability, gender, gender identity or sexual orientation.
- Content that promotes, romanticises or gives instructions for self-harm, suicide or disordered eating. Talking about your own struggles is welcome and encouraged — that's what this app is for. Methods, numbers, "tips" and glorification are not.
- Illegal drugs, weapons, or anything for sale.
- Spam, scams, chain messages, or links to other platforms.
Protect your privacy and everyone else's
- Don't share your real name, address, school, workplace, phone number, or social media handles — yours or anyone else's.
- Don't ask another user for theirs.
- Don't arrange to meet anyone you've met on Booniverse.
- Don't screenshot a private chat and post it.
- Don't post photos of other people without their permission.
Be yourself
- Don't impersonate anyone — another user, a staff member, or a real person.
- Don't claim to be a therapist, doctor, counsellor or crisis worker. Even if you are one in real life, you're a peer here.
- Don't give medical advice or tell anyone what to do about their medication or treatment.
Anonymous posts aren't a free pass
Mail-Bun posts are anonymous to whoever receives them. They are not anonymous to us — we can identify the sender, and we do when someone uses anonymity to be cruel. Anonymous harassment is treated more seriously, not less.
Report, don't retaliate
If someone breaks these rules, report them (Report & End in a chat, or the report option on a post or profile). You can also block anyone. Don't fight back, don't dogpile, and don't post about it.
Filing false reports to punish someone is itself a violation.
What happens if you break the rules
- Content removed — automatically, or after review.
- Strike — recorded against your account.
- Temporary suspension — length increases with repeat behaviour.
- Permanent ban — for serious violations, or after repeated strikes.
Some content is blocked before it ever posts. Some is removed after. Some is flagged for a human to look at. We won't always explain exactly which, because that helps people work around it.
Appeals: email support@booniverse.boo with your Boo ID and what happened.
If you're worried about someone
If a user tells you they're in danger, don't try to handle it alone:
- Show them the crisis resources in the app.
- Report the conversation so our safety team sees it.
- If you believe someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services.
You are never responsible for saving someone. Looking after yourself first is not selfish — it's the rule.
